We have certain expectations around the behaviour of our club members. We want to create a safe, supportive and fun environment for everyone. Some points to guide you:
It is imperative that you show respect towards all members of our club, as well as all others that you interact with in the greater dodgeball community (within Auckland, New Zealand and around the world). This doesn't mean you have to be everyone's friends but you should not be speaking poorly of anyone in a public setting. If you need to vent, please do so privately. If there is a legitimate concern, please bring it to the attention to your captain, coach or board member.
Similarly, we do not need to brag about our accomplishments or put other teams down if we beat them - publicly or otherwise. We want to be humble in our approach to the game.
Honesty is the core value of Dodgeball. Be honest if you are hit and call yourself out. There is an element of uncertainty as a ref or player so a 50/50 call might be used. This implies it was too close to call and will follow that with ‘out’ or ‘safe’. In the past we have tried to alternate between taking an out and staying in. If you are a part of Throwbots DC the expectation is that if you are unsure if you were hit or not (but suspect you were) proof is required to stay in (eg someone else can confirm that you were not hit). When in doubt, you're out. We would rather take an extra out than be called out for cheating. In the event of catches, if there is any doubt that a ball thrown has hit the ground.
In the event that other teams are caught cheating (in Competitive games) please report the incidents to your captain (along with any video proof) and they will decide which course of action to take with other members of the Throwbots DC Inc Board, when available. Unfortunately, if there is no video proof, we will be unable to do anything other than keep an eye on certain players (and ensure we film future games).
The referee’s decision is final. If you think that a call is incorrect in a competitive match, please speak with your captain and they will endeavour to bring up the issue with the referee at a time and in a way that is appropriate. No “Self Refereeing” the opposition (other team).
In social games and training, players from both teams may talk about what we saw to figure out what likely happened and what the ruling should be. When we have confusion and need a discussion both sides should stop throwing until play is resumed.
Our focus is on improvement and learning at Throwbots DC and we should always be open to suggestions and ways to improve. We would also encourage everyone to have a voice to help contribute to problem solving and improvement of each other.
No hateful language (written, verbal or otherwise) is to be directed towards anyone at any time, including when you are not at Dodgeball events. This includes, but is not limited to: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia. Hateful comments affect a large number of people - we do not want anyone playing for us that is causing harm like this.
Sexual harassment directed at anyone, including all participants in Dodgeball, in any form will not be tolerated, on any platform or in person.
If there are any issues that need to be discussed, please speak to your Captain first who is then advised to bring it to one of the club board members who will discuss how to proceed.
